Today, in countries around the globe, young people are deprived of access to university-level education because there is not enough accessible provision. On average, the poorest 50% of the population only represents around 25% of students studying at this level.
Yet, more so now than ever before, we have the tools to give everyone access to a great education which has the potential to empower a generation to change their lives and those of the people around them.
Studies globally have shown that increasing access to university-level education benefits not just the individual, but society as a whole. Graduates are more environmentally conscious, have healthier habits, and higher levels of civic participation. Also, increased tax revenues from higher earnings, healthier children, and reduced family size all build stronger countries.
Put simply, we believe that a university-level education is one of the best levers for fostering lasting global change. Backed by a diverse, multi-disciplined team of educators (many of whom are volunteering their time) we want to empower a generation, by giving them access to local, low-cost, accredited university-level provision. We do this by leveraging digital delivery methods and partner organisations to democratise higher education.
That said, these are not scaled down degrees, thanks to a UK University as a partner we can offer fully validated programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These courses will be delivered to UK quality benchmarks, leading to qualifications which are recognised internationally.
Where delivery may be more challenging we hope to offer a ‘University in a Box’. Designed by engineering students from the University of Gloucestershire, this innovative solar-powered solution can be dropped anywhere in world without the need for regular electrical or internet connections. It allows content to be transmitted locally to other devices, and only needs to connect sporadically to download content and upload any work students have completed
Working with NGO’s we are identifying 25 young women from South Sudan who we feel have the potential to be our first cohort. We have chosen this county and this group because, following a crippling civil war the South has very little quality educational infrastructure. Furthermore, women’s opportunities in this country have been disproportionately affected by the conflict meaning that they are even less likely to have access to education than their male counterparts.
This is an exciting project with so many moving parts and we can’t wait to tell you more.
The first cohort is due to start in 2022. We have managed to get the cost for each student down to just £2000, which means that our first cohort of 25 young women from South Sudan will only cost £50,000. An amazingly small amount to add such great value to so many lives.
Therefore, we are asking you to help us and change the course of someone’s life forever!
We believe that everyone should have access to an education to better their lives and improve their communities. Our ambitions are huge. There is no reason why this concept cannot be spread around the world to many more areas and empower hundreds of thousands of people a year.
It’s time to help “Empower a Generation”
